Architectural Design 5, Folie Design

This folie is to express the juxtaposition of man made and natural materials and the irony of 'race' within the site. The fast motion story bridge runs as a constant blur of movement, where as directly under the Howard Smith Wharves lay quiet and desolate. This imbalance is consistent when comparing the natural forms of the timbers and greenery and the implementation of objects such as the bridge and the sheds. The concept of 'race' has been explored further with the ideology of a race against time to provide equality for both man made and natural forms such as the preservation of the surrounding cliff face. This folie in short symbolic of expression, progression and regression. The tunnel-like object demonstrates the transition from organic forms to straight rigid structural components. Race Folie allows for the participant to utilize as necessary, providing minimal shelter to explore shadowing, but also a place for relaxation, seating, climbing and pure enjoyment of an artistic form.
